In the course of the modernisation of the Mannheim National Theatre’s workshops, the management decided to install 4 cranes for the construction of heavy stage and scenery elements. The contract went to the Haßloch based crane constructor SCHNEIDER Hebezeug- und Krantechnik GmbH, who put the project in place in close cooperation with SWF Krantechnik GmbH.
30 employees in different departments of the workshop deal with the settings for up to 37 new productions with stage settings and scenery per year. A stage setting needs about 6 weeks for its journey through the workshops until it’s ready. Then – depending on the success – it is used half a year or decades. After the end of the performances the pieces are stored or used in other places. In order for the pieces to be transportable via lorry they mustn’t be bigger than 6x2x2 Meters. “For the transportation of a recent Opera for example, 22 articulated lorries are necessary” says Bernd Oberle, head of the locksmithery.

In the locksmithery and joinery the heaviest elements such as stairs, carts and bearing parts are built. Therefore two overhead cranes each, with electric chain hoists SKC by SWF Krantechnik are used in both shops next to other devices. They each carry an ultimate load of 1.000 Kg per hoist. The span widths of the main girder are 10 m and 12, 2 m, the hoisting heights 5m and 9 m. The SWF crane kits that were ordered by Schneider were assembled within one day in the workshop in Haßloch and then prepared for transportation. The installation of the crane runways and the mounting of the overhead cranes took 5 days.
SCHNEIDER Hebezeug- und Krantechnik GmbH resorts to 28 years of experience in crane business. 6 employees deal not only with the installations of cranes but also on the service side with maintenance, repairing and testing of cranes.
